Nothing beats height for reliably good snow and Mount Titlis, the highest peak in central Switzerland at 3238 metres, provides Engelberg with a year-round snow covered glacier and one of the longest winter seasons in the Alps, from mid-November until mid-May.
Naturally endowed with reliable snow conditions and only a short transfer time from Zurich and Basel airports, Engelberg has undeniable appeal for both a short break or longer holiday with the additional attractions or being renowned for its hospitality and being full of character, due to its origins in the 12th century, when a Benedictine monastery was established at the for of Angel Mountain (Engel-berg).
The slopes stretch up over the mountains on both sides of the village, with a majority of the terrain suitable for intermediates and beginners. For advanced skiers and boarders there is a small percentage of black runs, but several exceptionally long runs, and there are many opportunities for exploring off-piste, with a guide.. Cross-Country skiers are well catered for and non-skiers will be amazed by the natural beauty of the location and enjoy numerous leisure & sports facilities plus the many cultural aspects of the resort.
